Background: Family planning is central to gender equality and women’s empowerment and it is
a key factor in reducing poverty.Long acting family planning methods provide uninterrupted
protection to women for 3 to12 years and by far the most effective and very safe. It is divided
into intra uterine contraceptive devices and implants; when it was removed, return to fertility is
prompt.
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess utilization of long acting family planning
methods and associated factors among married reproductive age women in Silti District, Silte
Zone, SNNPR, Ethiopia, 2017.
Methods: A community based cross-sectional studysupplemented by qualitative focus group
discussion was conducted by multi stage sampling technique with sample size of 528. Study
subjects selected by systematic random sampling for quantitative data and purposive sampling
procedure for qualitative data.The data was enteredusing EPI INFO version 3.1and analysis was
done by using SPSS version 22. Coding, entry and statistical analysis were done. Strength of
association was measured using odds ratio and 95% CI. Statistical significance was declared at p
value <0.05. Table and charts was used to present result.
