  "abstract": "<p>A community based cross sectional survey was conducted from<br>\nOctober 15/1991 to December 31g 1991, to measure the prevalence of<br>\nhypertension and its determinants in Wonchi Awraja.<br>\nFrom 9 urban kebeles and 184 rural kebeles in the Awraja 24<br>\nkebeles were selected by mUltistage sampling from which a total of<br>\n2,745 individuals who are 15 years old or abcive were included in<br>\nthe study.<br>\nRelevant measurements of-blood pressure, pulse rate count,<br>\nbody weight, height, waist girth, and hip girth of the study<br>\nsubjects were taken and a pretested questionnaire was filled to<br>\nassess some of the other determinants of hypertension.<br>\nIt was found that the prevalence of hypertension in the Awraja<br>\nis 8.3t. The urban population has a higher prevalence of<br>\nhypertension 11. 8t, than that of the rural population, 7. 5t,<br>\n(P&lt;O.05l&middot;</p>",
