Elective surgical case cancellation is common and can have significant adverse effects.
\nThe cancellation of planned surgeries causes prolonged wait times, harm to patients, and is a waste of
\nscarce resources. Reasons for cancellations are complex because they are related to patients,
\norganizational issues, and clinical staff.
\nObjective: -To Assess the frequency, to identify reasons for cancellation and to intervening
\npotentially avoidable causes of cancellation and observe the impacts of intervention made in St. peter
\nspecialized hospital.
\nMethods: -The study took place at St. peter specialized hospital. This is a pre and post intervention
\nstudy from February1/2010 to May 30/2010 E.C. All adult patients that underwent elective surgery in
\noperation room with in the study period were including. Total number of cancellations as well as
\ncause of cancellation was noted.
\nImplementation: The most feasible intervention was addressing reasons of cancellation due to
\nshortage of OR material (Guan, cape, drape).
\nResult: -At Pre intervention period highly cancellation caused by shortage of surgical material (guan,
\nCape & drape). Plan was purchased each 100 of OR guan, drape & cape. Now all are ready for work.
\nConclusion: Cancellation of surgeries is significant problem in this hospital .Reasons for cancellation
\nidentified was four categories. Whereas only one was selected for intervention in these study after
\ntaking impact, feasibility, cost effectiveness, time constraints into consideration. The highest present
\nfor reasons for cancellation were seen due to shortage of operation room material in pre-intervention
\nperiod.
", "license": { "id": "cc-by" }, "title": "MAXIMIZE OPERATING ROOM CAPACITY BY INTERVENINIG AN AVOIDABLE CANCELATION AT ST .PETER SPRCIALIZED HOSPITAL", "relations": { "version": [ { "count": 1, "index": 0, "parent": { "pid_type": "recid", "pid_value": "4317" }, "is_last": true, "last_child": { "pid_type": "recid", "pid_value": "4318" } } ] }, "communities": [ { "id": "aau" }, { "id": "zenodo" } ], "publication_date": "2018-06-01", "creators": [ { "name": "SAMUEL ASSEFA" } ], "access_right": "open", "resource_type": { "subtype": "thesis", "type": "publication", "title": "Thesis" }, "related_identifiers": [ { "scheme": "doi", "identifier": "10.20372/nadre:4317", "relation": "isVersionOf" } ] } }
