Small construction contractors are vital for provision of infrastructures in Addis Ababa.
The study is inspired by common low growth or business failures witnessed among this
class of business. The main objective of the study is to examine growth challenges facing
small construction contractors in Addis Ababa. Data were collected from both primary
and secondary sources. The main instrument of data collection was the questionnaire and
supported by interview. Questionnaires were dispatched to random samples of small
construction contractors in Addis Ababa. Accordingly, 120 completed questionnaires
were returned. Data was then analyzed by using descriptive statistics and factor analysis.
The result revealed that small construction contractors have relatively heavy proportion
and participation in basic infrastructure development which are essential for economic
growth of the city. The study revealed thirteen major growth challenges associated with
small construction contractors
