<dct:description><p>Employee saving and credit associations (ESCAs) were financial sector operating behind a wall in Ethiopia. The members were dramatically benefited from the associations as a source of financing and investment for several years with a little general public recognition. The sectors are primarily established for the interest of their members, saving, loan financing and an extra dividend on the idle cash saved within the association. The number of cooperatives in general currently approaches 1,500, excluding a small unions and voluntary cooperative not licensed. The study was aimed to determine to what extent the loan management, saving capacity of members, technology adoption, and Literacy status of workers and members had affected performance of ESCAs. As a sample case study ETC ESCA was used. It has 7,200 members from those for 379 sample size questionnaires were distributed and 361 were actually collected and analyzed. The study was facilitated by use of primary data and secondary data. The study adopted descriptive research design and inferential statistics in which multiple regression analysis was applied to the data to examine the effects of explanatory variables on performance of ESCAs. The main finding of the study is that; explanatory variables such as Loan management, Saving capacity of members, Technology adoption, and Literacy status of workers and members have positive significant effect on performance of ESCAs. But Saving capacity of members has no significant effect on performance of ESCAs. All explanatory variables have strong positive correlation with the performance of ESCAs.</p></dct:description>
