<dct:description><p>Woody plant species in agricultural landscape play a vital role in ecosystem services including food security that supports human livelihood. They can further offer synergy between adaptation and mitigation in addressing climate change impact. Aboveground woody biomass provide opportunities for better management of the carbon pools. Hence the aim of the study was to assess the diversity and carbon storage of woody species in agricultural landscape of Goro district of Bale Zone. Plant data were collected using systematic sampling by laying plots of size (100 m &times; 50 m and a total 71 plots were used in the study) Woody plant species encountered were counted and recorded and common characteristic dimension of species such as Diameter at breast height and height were also measured and recorded.Data on species diversity were calculated using the Shannon diversity index formula, variations in species diversity and impacts of altitude, slope and aspect were analyzed using ANOVA and MANOVA and Multiple linear regressions respectively. For the purpose of woody biomass estimation, allometric equations developed for a similar area were used. A total of 54 woody plant species were recorded, and The most frequent species was Croton macrostachyus followed by Erythrina brucei, the most abundant specie was Embelia schimperi followed by Croton macrostachyus. The common families were Fabaceae and Asteraceae. The species diversity and richness were impacted by altitude. The average above ground carbon storage of woody species was 19 Tone Carbon per hectare and the average aboveground carbon pool per plot was 1209 Tone carbon per ha. Albizia schimperiana and Flacourtia indica had the highest carbon storage Altitude, slope and aspect did not significantly affected the carbon storage and carbon pool though there was the above ground carbon storage showed significant difference with the characteristic dimension of woody species. Eventually woody species in on farmscape hold a high potential of carbon storage which may greatly contribute to the climate resilience green economy strategy and their conservation should be promoted 4<br> &nbsp;</p></dct:description>
