<dct:description><p>Value engineering is one of the most effective methods known to eliminate unnecessary costs, achieve the necessary functions &amp; improve value in design, construction, testing, operation, maintenance, production/ manufacturing, data, procedure and practices with required quality, reliability, safety, and performance. This study aims to assess the applicability of value engineering within the current context of Ethiopian construction industry. The research combined quantitative, qualitative, and case study research designs to collect the study information. This study targeted architects, engineers, construction management professionals, quantity surveyors, and other key stakeholders previously or currently involved in construction projects on behalf of clients (government), consulting firms, construction firms, and other organizations. The researcher used snowball and case-type sampling techniques. Data analysis performed through SPSS version 27, Microsoft Excel 2016, and a life cycle cost analysis. There is no good formal training and education on Value Engineering at all Higher and Technical Institutes of Ethiopia. In this study, the six top most dominant challenges were identified for the application of value engineering. Based on the aim of this study to examine value engineering techniques to save cost, the client can save 49,459,667.78 ETB (12.90% of the architectural works and 3.8% of the total contract amount) from the case study project. This research proposed value study process framework and developed conceptual implementation framework for the application of value engineering in Ethiopia. Finally, all Higher and Technical Institutes should include value engineering in their curriculum to give formal training and education. It is essential increasing awareness of the value engineering concept and its benefits for all stakeholders. Value engineering techniques, the proposed value study processes, and conceptual implementation frameworks can improve the implementation of value engineering in Ethiopia.<br> &nbsp;</p></dct:description>
