<dct:description><p><em>Onion is among the commercially cultivated and profitable horticultural businesses in the study area and the world. But, its growth and yield performances are highly dependent on the nutrients to be applied and the variety to be used. Thus, a field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of organic liquid fertilizer and variety on growth, yield components and yield of onion laid out in RCBD with 3 replications during the 2022 cropping season under irrigation at Debre-Libanos district, north Shoa zone, Ethiopia. Factorial combination of 5 levels of fertilizer (0 lit EGOLF ha<sup>-1</sup>, 200 NPSB+150 Urea kg ha<sup>-1</sup>, 200 lit EGOLF ha<sup>-1</sup>, 400 lit EGOLF ha<sup>-1</sup>, 600 lit EGOLF ha<sup>-1</sup>) and 3 levels of variety (Robaf, Nafis, and Nasik) were used as study treatments. Crop phenology, growth, yield component and yield data were collected and analysed using R software. Means of the studied parameters were separated by using the least significant difference test at a P &lt; 0.05 level of significance. Correlation relations between pairs of parameters were also computed. The result revealed that the maximum (36.53 t ha<sup>-</sup><sup>1</sup>) bulb yield of onion was obtained from 200 lit ha<sup>-1</sup> of EGOLF, while the minimum (15.36 t ha<sup>-1</sup>) was obtained from the 0 t ha<sup>-1</sup> (control) treatment. Nafis was the highest yielder, but Robaf was the most economically feasible variety among the others. The marginal rate of return obtained 12155.62% for Robaf variety treated with 200 lit ha<sup>-1</sup> of EGOLF was above the minimum acceptable marginal rate of return. From the result obtained, we can conclude that the EGOLF application can increase productivity by more than 137.82% over the control at the rate of 200 lit ha<sup>-1</sup>.&nbsp; Accordingly, the application of 200 lit ha<sup>-1</sup> EGOLF to Robaf variety was the best recommendation as it returned with 12155.62% MRR. However, this study was conducted at one place for a single season and has to be conducted in multiple locations across similar agroecologies for sound recommendations beyond the present study.&nbsp; </em></p></dct:description>
