FACTORS AFFECTING PROJECT PERFORMANCE OF ROAD CONSTRUCTIONS: EVIDENCE FROM NORTH SHEWA ZONE ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

This study investigates the factors affecting the performance of road construction projects in the North Shewa Zone of Oromia Regional State, with a focus on leadership styles, contractor competency, financial management, and timely availability of construction resources. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data from questionnaire and qualitative insights from interviews with key stakeholders.

The findings reveal that all four factors significantly impact project performance. Effective leadership styles and competent contractors are crucial for successful project execution, enhancing resource management and financial planning. Among these factors, timely availability of construction resources emerged as the most critical, underscoring its importance in maintaining project timelines and quality standards. Robust financial management practices were also found to be essential for ensuring project cost efficiency.

The study concludes that integrating strong leadership, contractor competency, sound financial management, and efficient resource planning into project strategies can significantly enhance the performance and success of road construction projects in the region. These insights are valuable for project managers and stakeholders aiming to improve project outcomes in similar contexts.
