  "description": "<p><em>In order to assess factors affecting performance of small-scale irrigation projects in selected districts of north Shewa Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia, survey research was conducted. Descriptive research design was used and data was collected by using questionnaires&rsquo;, focus group discussion, and key informant interview. The data was analyzed by using Microsoft excel and SPSS. The result indicated that environmental, social, political, and economic factors were identified as the dominant factors affecting SSI projects. Accordingly, land sliding, implementation of projects without detail soil investigation, water availability, land suitability investigation, construction material, and suitability of agro-climatology were identified as components of environmental factors. Social interactions, linkage between irrigation water users, social structures, and social awareness were identified as social factors. Further, lack of political stability, political awareness, lack of community participation, lack of equity, and mis-interference by gov&rsquo;t body were identified as political factors affecting SSI performance. Finally, low economic status, lack of saving opportunities, lack of market chain, and limitation of road facility were identified as economic factors.&nbsp; All these factors have different contribution in determining the performance of SSI projects considered under different Districts. Hence identifying the factors will help policy makers, irrigation users, and concerned offices to improve the performance of SSI irrigation projects. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</em></p>",
