{ "description": "<p>Background: Food insecurity is defined as the condition in which individuals lack sufficient access to safe and nutritious food necessary for an active and healthy life, food insecurity has significant ramifications for dietary quality and overall well-being. In regions where agricultural production is the primary livelihood, such as the coffee growing areas the implications of food insecurity are particularly pronounced for adolescent populations. This study aimed to assess the magnitude of food insecurity and associated factors among adolescents in coffee growing areas in Hambela Wamena district, West Guji zone, Oromia, Ethiopia, 2024 Methods: A community based cross sectional study with both quantitative and qualitative data collection was conduct in coffee growing areas of Hambela Wamena district, from July 1to July 30, 2024. Systematic random sampling technique was used to select 417 study participants. The collected data were entered into EpiData version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 24 for further analysis. Ordinary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with adolescent\"s food insecurity. Fifteen interviews were conducted with key informants.15 key informants were transcribed and analyzed. Results: It has been observed that 239(57.4%) of adolescents were food secure while, 178 (42.6%) of adolescents were food insecure. Sex of adolescents (p=0.02), family size (p<0.001), sex of household head (p<0.001), own farmland (p<0.001) and household wealthy index (p<0.001) were predictors of adolescents food insecurity. Conclusion: Adolescent food insecurity is prevalent in the study area, significantly linked to family size, household head sex, farm land ownership and socioeconomic status.
