"abstract": "<p>This study examines the bank-specific and macro-economic factors that affect bank profitability of thirteen commercial banks in Ethiopia, during the period of 2013-2023. The study adopted a quantitative method of research approach and 13 sample commercial banks were purposively selected from 23 banks operating in Ethiopia. Regression analysis was run to analyze the raw data collected through audited financial statements. The findings of the study show that capital adequacy and USD exchange rate have statistically significant and positive relationship with banks&rsquo; profitability, inflation, and Number of branch have a negative and statistically significant relationship with banks&rsquo; profitability. However, the relationship between bank size and GDP is found to be statistically insignificant. Therefore, Ethiopian commercial banks should have to give attention for both the internal and the macroeconomic variables together to maximizing their profitability and financial soundness.</p>",
