"description": "
Introduction: Holistic nursing care considers the patient’s needs on all levels, like physical, social, spiritual, and psychological aspects. In order to help people achieve balance in their physical, mental, psychic, and spiritual self, holistic nursing care practice and related elements are crucial. A few studies were found in Ethiopia as far as I know before, and those did not address perceptions of nurses and were not supported by an observational checklist. So this study was to fills those knowledge and practical gaps. Objective: To assess holistic nursing care practices and associated factors among nurses at public hospitals in West Shoa Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia, in 2024. Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 281 professional nurses by systematic random sampling at public hospitals in the West Shoa Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia. Data was gathered through self-administered and observational checklist questionnaires. Epi Data Version 4.6 was used to enter the acquired data, and Statistical Package of Social Science Version 27 was used for analysis. The variables associated with the use of binary logistic regression if the p-value was less than 0.25 and multiple logistic regression if p value < 0.05 was used. Result: This study involved 270 participants, with a 96.1% response rate. 36.3% [(95% CI = (30.6%, 42.3%)] and 28.6% [(95% CI = (13.2%, 48.7%)] had practice of holistic nursing care by self-administered and observational checklist, respectively. Multivariable logistic regression showed that male [AOR 0.41; 95% CI = (0.23, 0.74)], ≤ 5 years of experience [AOR 0.42; 95% CI = (0.22, 0.80)], in PACU [AOR 0.22; 95% CI = (0.06, 0.82)], ICU ward [AOR 0.25; 95% CI = (0.10, 0.62)], gynecological ward [AOR 0.23; 95% CI = (0.06, 0.88)], and others [AOR 0.22; 95% CI = (0.62, 0.86)], poor knowledge [AOR 0.26; 95% CI = (0.14, 0.50)], and low perception of nurse [AOR 0.47; 95% CI = (0.26, 0.85)] were associated with holistic nursing care practices. Conclusion and Recommendation: This study found that the practice of holistic nursing care among nurses in public hospitals in the West Shoa Zone was low. Male nurses, with ≤ 5 years of experience, working in units (i.e., PACU, ICU, gynecological ward), poor knowledge, and low perception of nurses were associated factors. So to make training, to give regular supervision, and to develop national guidelines for an improvement of the holistic nursing care practice.
",
