In this study antibacterial activity and preliminary phytochemical test of the leave extracts of Ruta chalepensis and Prunus africana were tested. The plant leave samples were collected from Kuyyu districts; North Shoa zone of Oromia region, Ethiopia and the plant type were then authenticated. The extraction from each of the plant leave were carried out using six different solvents namely, chloroform, ethanol, methanol, hexane, ethyl acetate and distilled water by using disc diffusion assay methods. Using the extract antibacterial activity was tested on Staphylococcus aurous, Streptococcus pneumonia, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aerugenosa. Phytochemical test showed that saponins and alkaloids were found in all crude plant extracts tested, except methanol extract of Prunus africana, alkaloids are absent. The result indicated that ethanol extract of Ruta chalepensis and chloroform extract of Prunus africana showed highly activity inhibition against Streptococcus pneumonia and Escherichia coli.</p></description> </descriptions> </resource>
