    <description descriptionType="Abstract">&lt;p&gt;Flood is the most critical among all the natural disasters. Flood water inundates the floodplain areas and cause vast damages to life and property. This research tries to consider more options and fills the gaps not covered by others, adopting more than five application software like Arc GIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoHMS, HEC-RAS and HEC-GeoRAS. 12.5m by 12.5m resolution DEM for the catchment and 10m contour interval of Akaki flood plain is used to analyze terrain information. In this research, hydraulic modeling and floodplain mapping HEC-RAS, ArcGIS and its extension HEC-GeoRAS were used as tools. Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) was prepared from the digital elevation model (DEM) of the study area using GIS. Required data sets as stream centerline, banks, flow paths and cross sections were prepared in HEC-GeoRAS (Geospatial River Analysis system) thus, creating import file and imported in HEC-RAS. In HEC-RAS, boundary condition for downstream were defined. Similarly, flood-discharges for different return periods were also input and steady flow analysis was done for the results&lt;/p&gt;</description>
