The construction industry is one of the major labor driven industry that contribute for the economic growth of a country. Labor productivity constitutes a significant part of produc-tion input for construction projects. In the construction industry, many external and internal factors are never constant and are difficult to anticipate. Working in improving labor productivity would help to improve the on time and on budget finishing of construction projects
The objective of the study was to explain the various factors affecting labor productivity that have been identified by other researchers and select those factors that could suite this study and to evaluate and analyze the Relative Important Index (RII), evaluate the relation of these factors with productivity and make comparative analysis between the study find-ings and other countries findings.
Literatures were reviewed and factors identified by early researches were considered to categorize the factors. 39 indicators, categorized into 7 factors, were analyzed. The study focused on labor productivity in construction performed by general contractors above grade 5 located in Addis Ababa Bole sub city which have ongoing construction project sites. The questionnaires were distributed to technical personals (Project Manager, site Engineer, for-man, office engineers…) and skilled and unskilled labors.
