    <description descriptionType="Abstract">&lt;p&gt;Along with the Ethiopian growth in the construction of buildings come the inevitable adverse environmental, economic and social effects. These effects are evident throughout the life cycle of a building. Green building practices seek to address these unwelcome impacts by promoting responsible construction practices and building schemes that reduce the carbon footprint. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to study the potential application of the green building attributes in the Ethiopian building design and construction sector. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information from one hundred five respondents using random sampling techniques to investigate awareness on green building, to rank seven-main attributes and twenty-six sub-attributes according to the Ethiopian context using relative importance index and a case study building to prospect and trace-back the green building attribute considered and the credit achieved on the Ethiopian first and only LEED Gold-certified green building. Additionally, a checklist developed using the ranked attributes to practice some of the green building features in the industry. Respondents come from five distinct groups: contractors, consultants, academicians, real estate developers, and government firms. In addition, a green building case study review conducted to clarify the main and sub-attributes credit evaluations and their application consideration. The findings reveal that Energy efficiency, water efficiency, and Sustainable material and resource were the three top-ranked attributes from the respondent&amp;#39;s opinion. The sub-attributes also ranked accordingly within their main-attributes. The study also indicates that professionals lack awareness about green building in general and the attributes application of the case study building investigated. The Outcomes of this research is a preliminary platform for developing green building standard and best practices that would be meaningful to the Ethiopian building industry. As of the time of this study, there was no green building standard in Ethiopia.&lt;br&gt;
