EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF WOOD SPECIES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF WOOD PLASTIC COMPOSITE

The actual demand for new materials has motivated the research of alternative materials especially, composites materials. With its market demand expands and increased application areas, products of wood plastic composite (WPC) have been developing and growing rapidly in many countries over the last decades. There are a lot of studies on WPCs in which most of them are not focused on the effect of wood species on the performance of wood-plastic composites (WPCs). This paper attempt to investigate the effect of wood species which are waste from furniture industries on the performance of wood-plastic composites (WPCs). 30wt% of Cordia Africana’s /wanza’s/ and 30wt% Austria pine’s wood species fine sawdust separately used with 70wt% of pure high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in two samples and the mixture of both species sawdust in 15wt% of each in another sample were used to prepare the samples and studied the performance of the resulted composites. The composites were tested with tensile and impact tests followed by morphological analysis, in addition, a physical property test was also performed which is the water absorption test
