Syphilis was found to be very common in the prisoners.
\nOverall, 31.6% of the prisoners had a positive VDRL. The rate in
\nprisoners who were HIV positive was 63% or 17 out of 27. A concurrent
\ndiagnosis of syphilis was strongly associated with HIV seropositivity.
\n(Odd's ratio = 4.09). Recent admission to prison within the past three
\nmonths was strongly associated with HIV positivity (Odd's ratio = 3.72);
\n21 of the 27 HIV positive prisoners had been in prison for less than three
\nmonths. Factors found important in other studies on prisoners and AIDS,
\nsuch as homos(3xuali ty and intravenous drug use were not found to be
\nfeatures of prisoners in Dire Dawa. Surprisingly, significant
\nassociations could not be proved between number of prostitute contacts or
\nnumber of sexual contacts per month before prison and HIV positivity
", "license": { "id": "cc-by" }, "title": "HIV SEROPOSITIVITY AND RELATED FACTORS AMONG PRISON ERS IN DIRE DAWA", "relations": { "version": [ { "count": 1, "index": 0, "parent": { "pid_type": "recid", "pid_value": "3773" }, "is_last": true, "last_child": { "pid_type": "recid", "pid_value": "3774" } } ] }, "communities": [ { "id": "aau" }, { "id": "zenodo" } ], "publication_date": "1989-05-05", "creators": [ { "name": "YOHANNES KEBEDE" } ], "access_right": "open", "resource_type": { "subtype": "thesis", "type": "publication", "title": "Thesis" }, "related_identifiers": [ { "scheme": "doi", "identifier": "10.20372/nadre:3773", "relation": "isVersionOf" } ] } }
