The study aims to identify perception and opportunity and also to explore the urban agriculture challenges in the study area. It employed a mixed method, with cross-sectional descriptive design. A survey with employees and farmers was done. In-depth interviews with farmers, key informants, and experts were conducted. FGD with civil service employees was done. Results suggest that scarcity of urban farm land related constraints (farm land constraints), scarcity of water for watering vegetables, and constraints of different agricultural inputs are identified. Besides, market accessibility for selling products, transportation availability, increased consumption of vegetable products by urban dwellers, high demand for vegetable consumption, and government policy agenda supporting urban agriculture as a current issue for urban livelihoods In addition, the awareness of urban dwellers, the negative attitude against urban agriculture, looking at the work of old fashion, and thinking of an urban farmer as a backward person is enough to think that an urban farmer is uneducated. We conclude that the Addis Ababa City Administration Urban Agricultural Development sector should have to give due attention to working together with different research institutions in order to solve the problem of pests and insects and improve vegetable production per unit area of land.
