Background: Cholera is a diarrheal disease caused by infection of the intestine with the gramnegative
bacteria vibrio cholera, either type o1 or o139. A single case of Cholera initiates outbreak
investigation in Ethiopia. Kolfe keraniyo sub-city Public Health Emergency Management reported
two Cholera cases on 20 September 2017. Two of the sample investigated by culture and stool RDT
kit confirmed that positive for vibrio cholera o1. The index case was 55 years old woman from
woreda one kolfe keraniyo sub-city. We aimed to identify the risk factor for the occurrence of the
cholera outbreak and institute appropriate measures
Method: we conducted cholera outbreak investigation in woreda1, 2,3,5,9 and 13 of kolfe keraniyo
sub city, Addis Ababa town from September 20, 2017-January7, 2017. We defined suspected cases of
cholera as occurrence of acute watery diarrhea, with or without vomiting, in a patient aged ≥5 years
living in study area. Unmatched case control study design was used and we included all of the
identified cases (19) during the course of the outbreak and recruited 38 controls with 2:1 control to
case ratio. We searched new cases in health facilities. We assessed houses of cases and holly waters.
Structured questionnaire was used to collect data for case control study and using line list
