ASSESSMENT OF PROJECT RISK MANAGEMENT PRACTICE OF IT PROJECT: THE CASE OF ETHIO TELECOM

This study is targeted to assess project risk practice of IT project in Ethio Telecom by addressing the process undergone namely: risk planning, risk identification, risk analysis, risk response, and risk monitoring and controlling. The primary data was collected from 60 respondents out of the total population of 387 which are selected using non-probability purposive sampling. And the collected data analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Then the data presented quantitatively using descriptive statistics. Semi-structured interview was also conducted with 4 project managers, and analyzed qualitatively by integrating secondary data obtained from TEP chart, reports, magazines, And Ethio telecom booklet. The findings obtained about the practice of risk planning revealed that the project have a systematic risk planning process and it is prepared with the involvement of relevant stakeholders and consideration of an expert judgment. However, team members do not receive training about how to handle risks. Regarding the practice of risk identification, there is no involvement of all team members; the project uses a measurement system to analyze risk and subjective probability assessment to assess the probability of risk occurrence
