"description": "<p>In this study, the financial performance characteristics of private commercial banks in Ethiopia are investigated. Six of the seventeen private commercial banks were selected for the study and their panel data (those with well-organized financial data through 2020). They were purposely taken, and their audited yearly financial records for the years 2010 to 2020 were reviewed. The explanatory research design was adopted because the data are secondary in nature. The fixed effect model was also applied. Internal, macroeconomic, and industry-specific factor were all taken into consideration for this study. In this study, internal factors such as bank size, capital adequacy, liquidity risk, management efficiency, and employee efficiency were taken into account. Macroeconomic factors included inflation rate, foreign exchange rate, and change in interest rates on deposits, while industry-specific factors included the banking sector development. Utilizing ROA, the financial performance was also determined. The findings of the study showed that management efficiency, inflation rate, bank size, and change on interest rate on deposits have a positive and statistically significant effect on financial performance of private commercial banks. However, effective employee management of liquidity and the foreign exchange rate have a negative, significant impact on the financial performance of the banks (ROA). Finally, the study showed that sound financial performance of private commercial banks in Ethiopia was not statistically significantly influenced by capital adequacy or banking sector development. For greater performance and profitability in their own line of business, private commercial banks should pay careful attention to enhancing bank-specific qualities such bank size, Liquidity, and staff and management efficiency. It will assist bank managers, investors, analysts, and others in understanding the critical variables affecting bank performance and directing their business activities, allowing them to take the necessary actions to improve their financial performance.</p>",
