"abstract": "
Introduction: Visceral leishmaniasis causes alterations of lipid metabolism and associated with hypochlesterolemia and severe hypertriglyceridemia. Hepatic dysfunction and life threating hepatitis is associated with visceral leishmaniasis. Kidney damage is frequently associated with increased morbidity and mortality in visceral leishmaniasis patients. However there is no published data on the effect of visceral leishmaniasis to kidney, liver, and lipid profiles in Ethiopia particularly in the study area.
\nObjective: To assess selected clinical chemistry test alterations and associated risk factors among visceral leishmaniasis patients attending at Kahsay Abera and Mearg Hospitals Western Tigrai, Northern Ethiopia from November 2018 -March 2019.
\nMethod: Institutional based comparative cross sectional study was conducted from November 2018 to March 2019 in Kahsay Abera and Mearg Hospitals, Western Tigrai, Northern Ethiopia. A total of 100 visceral leishmaniasis patients and 100 control groups working in Kahsay Abera and Mearg Hospitals without visceral leishmaniasis were selected by using convenient sampling techniques. The samples were processed and analysed by Mindray 200E automated clinical chemistry analyzer. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS Version 23. Descrpptive satatisticss, independent-test, binary logistic regressions were used for data analysis. P values < 0.05 were considerd as statistically significant at 95% confidence level.
",
