<dc:description>Solid waste management (SWM) involves the collection, storage, transportation, processing, treatment, recycling and final disposal of waste. To achieve the above stated means of management, household considered as one of the stakeholders and have their own responsibility. The primary objective of solid waste management activity is to make the environment sound and safe in human health via disposed waste in a well-organized manner. The main objective of the study is to estimate households‘ determinate factors for solid waste generation and their WTP for improved solid waste management services in Dire Dawa city. The study employed cross sectional study design because the study employed both qualitative and quantitative method of research. Both descriptive and inferential analysis were employed. Ordered probit model was employed to analyze determinants of households‘ willingness to pay for improved solid waste management services using STATA 14.0. 81.3.27% of sample households were willing to pay for improved solid waste services with the mean 23.3 ETB for open ended and double bounded CVM elicitation formats. The distribution of the double-bounded dichotomous choice response was analyzed using their willingness to pay for improved solid waste management practice versus their initial amount that a household is willing to pay for the service. The higher the price is; the lower acceptance by the respondent and the double-bounded dichotomous is in line with the law of demand theory. The finding revealed that most of the households are willing to pay for SWM service and the respondents‘ average WTP is much higher than the current SWM service charge. As a result, it is better to design and implement SWM service to collect more funds and deliver better service for Dire Dawa City dwellers.</dc:description>
