"abstract": "
Advisor: Senbato Kena Etana (PhD)
\n\n
ABSTRACT
\n\n
Ferrites are the mixed metal oxides containing iron oxide as their main component. The purpose of this work is to investigate the structural and magnetic properties of strontium doped cobalt ferrite nanoparticles samples with chemical formula (Co1-xSrxFe2O4 where x=0.00, 0.05 and 0.10). Nano particles samples have been synthesized successfully via sol-gel method. From X-ray diffraction (XRD) data the crystallite size was found to be increased from 42.541 nm to 42.547 nm as x increased from 0.00 to 0.10. The crystal lattice constants were found to be decreased from 0.836 nm to 0.824 nm as x increased from 0.00 to 0.10 respectively. From the scanning electron microscope (SEM) micrographs it is clearly seen that the prepared samples were in agglomerated form almost spherical shape. The elemental compositions were determined using energy dispersive x-ray spectroscope (EDX) and the results showed that the compositions of the samples are as per the stoichiometry ratio. From vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) results the saturation magnetization (Ms) and remnant magnetization (Mr) was found to be decreased from 39.24 emu/g to 24.79 emu/g, 4.08 emu/g to 1.41emu/g respectively as x increased from 0.00 to 0.10 and coercive field (Hc) was found to be increased from 0.55 kOe to 0.76 kOe as x increased from 0.00 to 0.10.
\n\n
Key words: Ferrites, Cobalt ferrite nano particles, Sol-gel, XRD, Magnetic properties.
",
