  "abstract": "<p><strong>ABSTRACT:&nbsp;</strong>The purpose of this study was to investigate the practices and challenges of financial resources management in secondary schools of Sidama Regional State. The study employed explanatory research design;and the mixed research approach was used. For this study, 5woredas and 2 town administrations were included by using simple random sampling. From these selected woredas9 secondary schools were included through using simple random sampling; this is because the researcher believed that from these schools can be obtaining sufficient information the issue under investigation. From these sample schools, 55 school leaders (principals, vice principals and department heads) and 9 accountants were selected through census sampling, while 134 teachers were selected by using simple random sampling and 7Woreda finance office expertswere selected by using purposively sampling. Questionnaire was administered to school leaders and teachers as main tool of data collection. Interview was for accountants and woreda finance office experts to substantiate the data gathered through questionnaire. Document review was also part of data collection for the study. Using statistical package for social sciences version 21, quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics while content analysis approach was used to analyze the qualitative data. Finding of the study revealed that financial resource management activities don&rsquo;t implemented according to preplanned; the effectiveness of finance utilizing, monitoring and evaluation process was low. Study also revealed that the practice of financial rules to manage financial resources don&rsquo;t appropriately implement. Lack of training and development, shortage of school budget, lack of commitment and awareness were challenges that hindered the proper utilization of financial resources. The study concluded that school leader&rsquo;s lack of training, weak planning, allocating and utilizing school leads to improper school finance management. Based on findings, school leaders better to develop cooperative efforts with different departments in budget preparation at the school and school leaders better to motivate parents, local communities and non-government organizations to contribute additional income for schools in order to solve school financial management problems.</p>",
