<description descriptionType="Abstract"><p><strong>ABSTRACT:</strong> The purpose of this study was to investigate the major causes of conflict between teachers and school leaders in secondary school of Guji zone. Moreover, the study also aimed at assessing the perception of respondents toward the outcomes of the conflict, to identify major causes of conflict, types of conflict, &amp; seek appropriate method for conflict management in secondary schools of Guji zone. The explanatory sequential design with mixed method was employed. The study was conducted in six secondary schools selected through proportionate stratified sampling technique from sample woreda. The subject of the study were 141 respondents. From these 96 teachers selected by stratified sampling and 45 school leaders, 3 HWEO and 4 school supervisors of the sample woredas were selected through available sampling technique. The data was gathered through questionnaire from78 teachers and 44 school leaders and analyzed quantitatively by using SPSS version 24 &amp; interview was held with 3 HWEO and 4school supervisor and qualitative data was analyzed through narrative techniques. Descriptive statistical tool: percentage, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistics (t-test) were used to analyze the data. The study showed that the major causes of conflict categorized under three factors, such as: individuals, structural, &amp; situational factors. The structural factors have the highest degree of contribution for conflict development between teachers and school leaders in the schools. Among the major causes of conflict were: lack of teachers&rsquo; participation in decision making, unfair selection of various benefit, teachers&rsquo; performance evaluation system, disciplinary action due to absenteeism, ambiguous authority and responsibility, and competition for promotion and position were some of common sources of conflict development in secondary schools. The types of conflicts were in the form of personal and group aspects. Interpersonal conflict has the highest degree of occurrence in secondary schools as compared to other. The effective conflict management strategies that were used to handle conflict were: open discussion, compromising, avoiding. To this end oral and written reprimands and salary discount were applied as disciplinary measures. In general, teachers and school leaders lack basic knowledge about positive outcomes of conflict for individuals and organizational improvement thus, it did not handled properly. Therefore, for the effectiveness of managing conflict processes and for the purpose of getting balanced perception of conflict, special training for both teachers and school leaders is recommended. Educational organization in regional, zonal, and woredas level should prepare awareness creation training, conference, &amp; workshops respects with conflict &amp; its management strategies in the schools. Teachers and school leaders in the school also should treat each other in fair manner and handle conflict situations properly to minimize its negative results &amp; to maximize the positive outcomes for individuals&amp; organizational improvement. To this end all secondary schools should work hand in hand in team sprit to accomplished general goal of education.</p></description>
