"description": "<p>ABSTRACT</p>\n\n<p>Rainwater harvesting is thought to be one of the most useful water conservation systems which have a profound impact on food security. Therefore, the study focused on the impact of RWH on farm household food security with specific reference to Sodo Zuria District of SNNP Regional State. The general objective of the study is to examine the impact of RWH on farm households’ food security. A multi- stage random sampling technique was employed to select sample households. Both primary and secondary data was employed. The primary data was collected from 379 sample households’ while the secondary data’s were collected from different documents and analysis was carried out with the help of descriptive statistics and econometric models. The study used PSM model to analyze impacts of RWH on food security while Logit model was used to identify factors affecting household participation decision in RWHT. Fourteen explanatory variables were included in the logistic regression model of which six were significant. The significant variables that are found to determine households’ participation in RWH include participation in training, ownership of tropical livestock units (TTLU), access to credit of household, frequency of extension contact, education level of the household head, and participation in off-farm income. Using PSM, it was found that participation in RWHT increased daily caloric intake and household consumption expenditure over non-participant households. The sensitivity analysis result showed that the impact estimates on significant outcome variables were insensitive to unobserved selection bias. Thus, strengthening crop and livestock production, arranging training and experience sharing to farmers, promoting off/non-farm income, providing education services for rural households, supporting households facilitating access to credit and concern to enhance farm households’ participation decision in RWHT for improving food security.</p>",
