In recent years, the evolution of mobile networks into 5G has been developed collectively by the operators, vendors, corporate research laboratories, universities, and the public sector players. 5G will cover almost all aspects of the human civilization. Employing wireless - optical hybrid networks is important for high speed, low latency, high capacity, reliable communication, and network flexibility. Dimensioning is the major part of network planning and design, so it is a fundamental step in the process of deploying a network. 5G is going to be a hybrid infrastructure of wireless and optical networks, and there is a need of model for dimensioning of this network. In this thesis, a mathematical expression for dimensioning of wireless - optical hybrid 5G networks have been developed. Dimensioning from the optical part have been started since, it is in the backbone of 5G network. In this part, expressions to estimate the network parameters of the constituent elements of the network in terms of node and link parameters are presented. In the node, we consider EXCs, OXCs, transponders and regenerators. In the link part, we consider the network requirements of OLT, OA, and OF. Finally, the bandwidth required to provide a higher data rate needed in 5G is calculated from the typical 5G architecture and specifications. In the wireless part, expressions for coverage and capacity estimation for the frequency band of 3.5 GHz have been developed. The coverage is determined from the maximum path loss (MAPL) in which it is calculated from the radio link budget. The MAPL is converted in to the maximum distance calculation by using WINNER II propagation model. The number of gNBs needed to cover a certain area and the radius of the cell is determined in this part. At last, correlation between the optical and wireless parts is developed in terms of bandwidth. The methods developed in this work will be used for the fast estimation of network cost and essential for network planning and design.
