  "abstract": "<p>Reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column joints are dominant parts of a RC structure, which plays vital role in load transferring mechanisms among structural members. However, lessons from past earthquakes indicated, common failures beam-column joints. Thus, there is a demand to retrofit beam-column joints using innovative materials. Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) having immunity against corrosion, light unit weight and high tensile strength is a primary choice as a strengthening material. This research work numerically investigates use of Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite for retrofitting non-seismically designed RC beam-column joints. Experimental result reported in literature is used for validation analyses using ANSYS nonlinear finite element software program and further parametric studies are performed to investigate variables that influence performance of CFRP composite retrofitted beam column joints under cyclic loading. Finite element analysis (FEA) results indicate increasing number of CFRP layers bonded to joint area resulted in an enhancement in load carrying capacity of the RC beam-column joints. Similarly, increase in number of CFRP layer minimized concrete damage in joint and decreases deflection at failure load. Also, CFRP with 0&ordm; fiber orientation relative to RC beam axis exhibited good performance as compared to other fiber orientation and CFRP layer with 0&ordm;/0&ordm;/0&ordm;/0&ordm; configuration showed good load capacity improvement.<br>\n&nbsp;</p>",
