EVALUATION OF URBAN WATER SUPPLY AND LOSS IN THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM: CASE OF DILLA TOWN ETHIOPIA

Supply adequate, quality and safe drinking water is a basic need for every human being. However, many people particularly in developing nations including Ethiopia faced lack of access to quality and adequate water supply services. This study evaluates the existing water supply system based on water supply coverage, water loss, and hydraulic performance of the distribution network of Dilla Town, Southern Ethiopia. To achieve the objectives of the study Water CAD V8i and AWWA water audit software were used. The models result showed that high and low pressure in junctions and the level of velocity through distribution pipe, in addition to pressure calibration of field measurement with the model simulated. The existing average per capital water demand of the town is 12.85l/c/d with the comparison of the minimum estimated standard of 30 l/c/d for the country level, the value is very low. Regarding to water demand coverage the existing water production covers 42%of the town. The result indicates that there is high gap between demand and supply
