"description": "Material waste is defined as the difference between the value of materials delivered and accepted on site and those properly used on specified and accurately measured in the work, after deducting the cost saving of substituted materials transferred elsewhere, in which unnecessary cost and time may be incurred by materials wastage. The main purpose of this study was to assess the current situation of managing and minimizing wastage of construction materials in the housing projects of Lideta branch of Arabsa site by evaluating the causes, impact on the project performance and level of contribution and practice of material wastage minimization strategies. To answer the basic research questions of the study, both primary and secondary sources were used. To this end, the respondents were asked to rank the main sources and causes of construction materials wastage. Out of 174 total populations, the researcher selects 121 total samples. Here both random and non random sampling were used. The major findings of this study were, among the performance measurement criteria of projects, cost is greatly affected by material wastage at Lideta housing construction branch office of Arabsa site; besides, the planned completion time and quality of project performance criteria also affected by the presence of material wastage at the branch office of Arabsa site. furthermore, the major sources of construction material wastage in the project office are Site management ,design and documentation factors ,procurement , operation (on site, equipment) , materials transportation , handling and storage, site supervision and others (weather, theft) respectively. According to the study the researcher recommend that the project office should start construction projects after approving design and bill of quantity. Secondly, the way of project management should be changed and supplying materials should be permitted to contractors rather than the government being sole supplier. Finally, the objective of the project office should be free from political interference and managed by professionals who have good project management skills",
