The Hararghe Oromos, who originally resided in eastern Ethiopia, relocated after the 2017 Oromo Somali conflict. Despite facing integration challenges and marginalization in shaggar city, the precise factors affecting their social cohesion are poorly understood. This study examined the integration challenges faced by the Hararghe Oromos in Shaggar city Ethiopia, with a focus on the Galan sub-city. The study explored the various aspects of integration, including economic, social, and cultural integration, and how the Hararghe Oromos navigated these challenges in the urban context of Shaggar. The research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and observation to gather data from the Hararghe Oromo community, local government officials, and other stakeholders.The researcher applied exploratory research designsThen appropriate number of respondents were allocated and selected from these populations usingnon-probability samplingtechniques.Purposive sampling is used to choose respondents for interviews based on nonprobability sample.The findings revealed that the Hararghe Oromos faced significant challenges in integrating into Shaggar city, including: Economic integration: The Hararghe Oromos experienced difficulties in accessing employment, entrepreneurial opportunities, and financial services, leading to economic marginalization. Social integration: The Hararghe Oromos encountered barriers in building social networks and accessing social services, resulting in feelings of exclusion and isolation. Cultural integration: The Hararghe Oromos faced challenges in preserving their cultural identity and practices, while adapting to the dominant urban culture. The study also highlighted the role of institutional and policy factors in shaping the integration experiences of the Hararghe Oromos. It provided recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders to address these integration challenges and promote more inclusive and equitable development in Shaggar city. Overall, the thesis provided insights into the composite and multifaceted nature of the integration methods faced by the Hararghe Oromo community in the urban context of Shaggar, Ethiopia.
