    <description descriptionType="Abstract">&lt;p&gt;Recent construction boom in Ethiopia has leads to extra concrete&lt;br&gt;
demands. However, this resulted in scarce of concrete constituent&lt;br&gt;
materials like sand. Nevertheless, sludge which is abundant and a byeproduct of garment/textile factories in Industry zones here in our country&lt;br&gt;
Ethiopia has a potential for use to replace sand in non-structural concrete&lt;br&gt;
The present research work experimentally investigates use of garment&lt;br&gt;
/textile sludge as partial replacement of sand in concrete production.&lt;br&gt;
Experimental program was designed for C-25 concrete with various&lt;br&gt;
proportions of sludge replacement with sand and fresh concrete test,&lt;br&gt;
hardened concrete density and mechanical property tests were performed&lt;br&gt;
to quantify performance gains.&lt;br&gt;
Experimental results showed as compared to control concrete, 5%&lt;br&gt;
garment/textile sludge replacement by sand resulted on the 28th -day&lt;br&gt;
compressive strength is almost same concrete compressive strength.&lt;br&gt;
Whereas cost benefit analysis revealed a saving of 14.77 birr/m3. Also, 7th&lt;br&gt;
-day compressive strength test results indicated a 5.4% gain as compared&lt;br&gt;
to control specimen which is good characteristics for use of sludge&lt;br&gt;
modified concrete in precast concrete production. Hence, the research&lt;br&gt;
recommends this C-25 grade of solid concrete for non-structural concrete.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
