Daniel Haile Chercos and Demeke Berhanu 2017-07-08 Background: Work injury is an important cause of morbidity and mortality, much of these work injuries burden can be found in industry required heavy manual work such as, agriculture and fishers. Hence; agriculture is consistently cited as one of the most hazardous industry in the world. The objective of this study isto assess the magnitude and associated factors of work related injury among Saudi Star Agro Industry workers in Gambella region, South West Ethiopia. Methods: An institutional based cross-sectional study design was conducted on Saudi Star Agro Industry located in Gambella region, from February - June 2014 on 449 randomly selected workers who arestratifiedby working department. Anobservation checklist, factory clinical records and a structured interview questioner were used as a data collection tools. Result: The prevalence of work related injury was 36.7%. Marital status [AOR;1.69, 95%; CI;(1.1–2.7)], service year [AOR;1.9,95%; CI;(1.17–3.1)], working more than 48 h per week [AOR;9.87, 95%; CI;(5.95–16.28)],safety training [AOR;3. 38, 95%;CI;1.14–9.98)], regular health checkup [AOR; 12.29, 95%; CI (9–51.35)] and usage of personal protective equipment [AOR; 2.36, 95%; CI; (1.06–5.25)] were significant factors for the occurrence of work related injury. Conclusion: The prevalence of work related injury was high. Abebe Fentahun Misiker 2018-09-09 After 1960s Tewodros II of Ethiopia has been elucidated popularly in foreign and Ethiopian Media as well. Since then, he was portrayed as a national hero of the country. Yet, some foreign media had a different position in describing the aforementioned melting pot of modernity and unity in the history Ethiopian. They stated him from “crazy king” to “national hero”. The BBC witness program broadcasted that Emperor Tewodros II was one of the titanic figures of modern Ethiopian history. While the Telegraph described him as a “mad king of Abyssinia”. Hence, the statements of Media with regard to Tewodros II and his fall at Maqdala will be discussed through different topics of study. Hence, an in-depth study of Media reactions to the battle of Maqdala as seen in foreign and domestic media would require considerable study. The fall of Tewodros II at the battle of Maqdala in 10 April 1868 has become a topic of dialogue and media coverage up to date. Most of the publications represent the battle and the Emperor in different views. Thus, the views and interpretations of media, both foreign and domestic, could be reviewed in detail through this study. The paper argues that the battle of Maqdala and suicidal death of Tewodros II created a long lasting impression to both foreign and domestic media in their perception of the emperor and creating up of modern Ethiopia. Girma Tayachew 2016-08-09 This paper explores the full history of the foundation of Simen Mountains National Park in the Simen part of Ethiopia following the discovery of Walia (Capra Walie). The study shows the struggle of the government and foreign agencies to protect walia ibe by also shedding light on the response of the local people towards the foundation of the national Park. The study critically examines the challenges and opportunities during the process in the foundation of the park. Even though Simen Mountains National Park is one of the known heritage sites in the world, what has been truly missing to date is the study of its amazing history. The existence of more than 30,000 people in the premise of the park is another core problem. The study draws on hitherto untapped files from the archives of North Gondar Zone Administration Office as well as on interviews with historical actors. In addition, attempts have been made to gather qualitative data that are both published and unpublished documents. In 1963 a UNESCO-funded mission discovered walia ibex as one of the endemic animals in Ethiopia. It provided the corner stone for the emergence of the Park. The Simen Mountain National Park was officially established in 1969 on the recommendation of a UNESCO mission in 1963 to save the endemic animals. In 1978 it was registered as a world heritage site. From different types of environmental management methods, ISO14001 certification is one of them. ISO14001 certification has not only environmental benefit, but it has also indirect financial benefit since it believed that environmental concerned companies have better market share than others. Considering this, the main focus of this research is investigating whether ISO14001 certification has impact on profitability or not taking ELICO as case study. To investigate this, both primary and secondary data were used. The source of primary data was self- administered questioner and secondary data was collected from ELICO, NBE and Addis Ababa tannery data records. In this research both econometrics OLS multiple regression analysis by applying DID impact assessment method using ELICO as treatment and Addis Ababa tannery as control group and descriptive statistics was used. GENANEW AGITEW, DEGSEW MELAK, SISAY YEHUALA & HAIMANOT ATINKUT 2016-01-01 Land is central livelihood asset with the power to shape the livelihood strategies of rural poor. An understanding of dynamics of livelihood strategies induced by land and associated resources is vital to ensure the sustainability of rural livelihood. The main objective of this study was to investigate the dynamics of livelihoods strategies of farm households in response to land using cross-sectional survey addressing both quantitative and qualitative aspects. Techniques such as household survey, focus group discussion, key informant interview and observations using different tools were used to generate data. The results of the study showed that the land ownership of most farm households in the study area was emanated from traditional land ownership system and there exist very high disparity among households. Formalizing land ownership and use is also found to be unfinished business of the study area. Land and associated problems as pushing factors and market, support from government system, availability infrastructure and existing potentials of area as attracting factors have conditioned and shaped the livelihood activities and strategies of farm households. The dynamics of livelihood activities and strategies are demonstrated by the change in terms of farm enterprises and management; and changes in different activities by shifting between agricultural and non agricultural activities. Based on the same statistics, around 6300 work force were died and 850,000 workers were injured daily. Objective: To assess work related injuries and associated factors among Tendaho Sugarcane plantation workers, in Afar region, Ethiopia. ANTENEH ADAMU 2017-06-01 A cross-sectional study was undertaken with the aim of estimating the prevalence, identifying parasite species and assessing associated risk factors for the occurrence of haemoparasites in indigenous and cross breeds backyard chickens in selected districts of West Gojjam zone, Amhara region, Ethiopia from October 2016- May 2017. A total of 384 blood samples were collected and examined for the presence of haemoparasites using thin blood films. Out of these samples, 71 (18.5 %) of them were infected with haemoparasites. Four species of haemoparasites were identified, namely Aegyptienella spp., Haemoproteus spp., Leucocytozoon spp. and Plasmodium spp.. Highest prevalence of haemoparasite infection was recorded in midland (22.3%) compared to highland (10.9 %) areas with a statistical significant difference (p<0.05) between them. Statistical significance variation (p<0.05%) was observed in haemoparasite infection among districts, with highest prevalence in S/Achefer (27.3%) followed by B/Zuria (17.2 %) and the lowest in Mecha (10.9%) districts. Age and management system of chickens were significantly associated (p<0.05) with haemoparasite infection. Mohammed Gedefaw 2015-07-01 This study was conducted in Sanja district that aimed on the, Environmental and Medicinal value analysis of Moringa (Moringa oleifera) tree species. The study aimed to assess the roles of Moringa (Moringa oleifera) tree species for environmental, economic and its medicinal values. Step by step procedures were designed to take soil samples from the field. Simple random sampling method was used to take samples. Sample plots were laid to takesample from the soil and DBH of trees were measured. The soil samples were taken from Moringa land and areas with no Morinaga trees grown for organic carbon determination and soil fertility estimation of the soil for comparative analysis. Based on the study 98.742 ton/ha and 4.894 ton/ha the maximum and minimum carbon stocks observed in the above ground biomass, respectively. On the other hand, the carbon content in the soil carbon pool was 587.21118 ton/ha and 101.3601 ton/ha maximum and minimum values per plot of the study site respectively on the Moringa site. But, the maximum and minimum carbon content in areas with no Moringa tree was 485.57 ton/ha and 29.71 ton/ha respectively. Objective: to assess the level of safety culture and factors associated with it in X Construction Company, Ethiopia, 2014. Methods: An Institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample size of the study was 422 in X construction workers with a response rate of 95%. The data was collected by using interview administered NOSACQ-50 questionnaire and review of records of accident report, OHS company documents and walk through survey using workplace observation checklist to support the Questionnaire. The score of mean above 2.5 was considered as good safety culture and below the mean as poor safety culture; as well the level of safety culture of the company was indicated using mean score. Intestinal parasite co-infection worsens the effect of malnutrition among HIV patients. However, the magnitude of malnutrition and its associated factors among People Living with HIV/AIDS are not well understood at Butajira in particular and in Ethiopia in general. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of malnutrition and its associated factors among Adult People Living with HIV/AIDS receiving ART. Methods: Institution based cross-sectional study was conducted and systematic random sampling technique was used to select study subjects. A total of 305 study subjects were enrolled in the study.
