<dc:description>Currently Butajira town is inside the zone of critical water shortage. Besides the town
water supply enterprise is not in a position to cover the capital and operation and
maintenance costs. Accordingly this paper has set out to maximize the total revenue
collected from customers and quantifies the unsatisfied demand so that investment in
new water supply scheme developments can be planned and scaled. The various
methods employed includes review of existing system design, topographic survey data
was collected and search for optimal diameter of pumping mains pipe lines is done, The
present water supply deficit is calculated and the future water demand is forecasted by
use of water use forecasting model, Hydraulic analysis of the distribution system has
been done using steady-state water distribution models, Linear programming technique
concept has been used in the formulation of optimization problem, and several
stakeholder consultations have been carried out with the major stakeholders</dc:description>

<dc:description>Management of water resources has become a major challenge in recent years. Reservoir
operation is designed based on the interrelated hydrological, physical, and operational
parameters that have direct and indirect relation on the water resource activity to the
downstream of the reservoir.
In the next 30 years, water use will increase by 50% in the world. By 2025, about 4 billion
people will live under conditions of severe water stress (Gourbesvivelli, 2008).
Therefore, development of priority water infrastructures and improvements of water
management have essential and complementary roles in contributing to sustainable
growth and poverty reduction in developing countries like Ethiopia. One way of improving
water management is through increasing efficiency of dam reservoirs. Increasing the
efficiency reservoir by using optimal reservoir operation is among the solutions for improvement
of hydropower generation.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Conceptual mathematical models are useful tools for rainfall runoff modeling of river
basin. Thus, this study attempts to identify relationships between suitable conceptual
rainfall-runoff model structures and catchment types, and demonstrates an objective
procedure for selection of model structures for Gilgel Abbay, Dedessa and Neshe
catchments. In this study four conceptual model structures have been tested on three
catchments in Abbay River Basin. All the model structures are combinations of the water
balance and routing components since they are conceptual models. Three catchments were
selected to cover a range of hydrological types based on known average catchment
characteristics. The important points in objectively selecting model structures for discharge
simulation are proposed as: performance in calibration and validation, trade-off between
high, mean and low flow performance and FDC, and model complexity (here represented
as the number of parameters).</dc:description>

<dc:description>Wadecha-Belbela reservoir system is located in Oromia Region, East Shoa
zone, Adaa Liben woreda serving as a water source of 1600ha irrigation
projects. The irrigation system under the reservoir system is increasing
progressively during the past decades. The expansion of irrigation development
without the knowledge of the water source will have the outcome of agricultural
yield reduction and water stress. Inadequate knowledge on operation of the
reservoir has been leading to inefficient usage of stored water.
This study focuses mainly on the description and assessment of water
resources of the woreda based on climate, land and water information,
estimation of irrigation water requirements of the reservoir system irrigation
projects, and operational analysis of the reservoir system by the application of
reservoir system simulation model (HEC-ResSim).</dc:description>

<dc:description>Impacts of land use land cover change on watershed runoff and sediment yield of the Keleta watershed (1150Km2), Upper Awash sub-basin, were assessed using hydrological modeling. The study utilized different types of data including DEM, soil map, Landsat TM and ETM satellite data and the field observations. Two date Landsat image, 1986 and 2005, were used for generating the land use/land cover map of the study area and to detect the changes between these two time periods were simulated by the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model and were compared with measured values. The six main land use changes were identified as an increase of cultivation land from 52.5% to 68% and decrease of forest land 11.8% to 1.7 % of the watershed area during the two decade period. Using the two generated land cover maps, two SWAT models set up were run to evaluate the impacts the land use and cover changes on the stream flow of the study watershed. The performance of the SWAT model was evaluated through sensitivity analysis, calibration, and validation.</dc:description>

<dc:description>This study was conducted to Simulate water allocation for major production
activities (existing and planned) in the Abbay basin
The study has also assess the impacts of upstream water allocation on
downstream users.
The reduction of flow at the border due to the implementation of the projects as
compared to the existing mean annual flow of the river was also computed.
Based on the accepted net irrigable area and installed capacity on the master
plan documents, 1 7 irrigation projects covering an area of 220,416 ha of land
and 4,800MW hydropower projects on the main stream have been included in
the analysis. From the analysis the total water extracted for these irrigation
projects was estimated as 1.624Billion cubic meter annually. The border flow
volume reduction as a result of the implementation of these irrigation projects
during the reservoir added scenario is only 3.04% of the estimated mean annual
flow of 50.45 billion cubic meters.</dc:description>

<dc:description>An experiment was conducted during April to July in 2015 at Jawe and Kerekicho Kebeles in SNNP. The aim was to measure ETc, Kc of Desho grass and oats and vetch fodder crops; and to evaluate the WFD (scheduling tool) in terms of biomass yield and water productivity. The study was among two treatments with three replicated plots at each of the study areas and each plot size prepared was 10 m X 10 m. Data collected during the study were: plant height, soil moisture content of the soil, irrigation depth and biomass yield. To determine the ETc of the fodder crops, water balance method was used. Kc of desho grass and oats & vetch fodder crops were computed from measured ETc and ETo which was calculated from weather data. Seasonal ETc of desho grass and oats and vetch was 206 and 186 mm respectively. Kc values of desho grass at early, vegetative, mid and late stages were 0.4, 0.71, 0.89, and 0.72 respectively whereas for oats & vetch was 0.29, 0.89, 1.01, and 0.71 respectively. Plant height at the mid and late stage for both fodder crops; biomass yield and irrigation water productivity were significantly different at a significant level of (p<=0.05) among treatment plots for both crops. At the mid and late stages of Desho grass, the plant height under WFD treatment was higher than the control treatment by 28% and 23% respectively whereas the plant height of oats and vetch under WFD treatment was higher than the control treatments at the mid and late season by 23% and 9% respectively.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Problems in provision of adequate water supply to the rapidly growing urban
population in developing cities are increasing dramatically. As a-result demand for
additional water sources and infrastructure is growing. Moreover, nearly 50% of the
water produced is lost at different levels of the distribution system before reaching the
consumers. Debre Markos is one of the developing cities suffering a high shortage of
water as well as high water loss. Both financial and technical constraints are the main
bottlenecks that hamper the city to satisfy the highly growing needs of its residents .
Quantifying and characterizing water loss and leakage in a city water supply system
is by its nature a complex task. Leakage identification needs detailed field
investigation sometimes using sophisticated equipment. In this study, an attempt is
made to evaluate both the water loss and economic level of leakage with the
available primary and secondary data.</dc:description>

This study appraises the design practice and failure of the river diversion structure for irrigation in the study area and identifying, analyzing and categorizing of the main problems were focus points. This study considered by selecting five existing river diversion structures in different Kebeles of the woreda to understand the causes of the major failures of the structures by considering different aspects such as pre- and post-construction, institutional aspects, planning problems, social and operational problems and initial design documents. In order to identify and characterized the existing irrigation schemes field observation and measurements, group discussions, interview and questionaries’ were used to achieve the objectives of this study and analyzed by SPSS statistical software. Arc-GIS 10.1 was applied to delineate the watershed of the study area, pick discharge estimated by Soil conservation system (SCS) and Auto CAD -2007 used for design purposes. The design practice of the studied area is very poor. In these study areas most of the implemented schemes are suffering from problems attributed to design, construction, and operation & maintenance that lead to major failure of the structures.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Bessel’s equation is the whole family of differential equation, specially ordinary differential
equation and frequently occur in various fields of science, applied mathematics and
mathematical physics involving cylindrical symmetry. In this thesis, we proposed a most
general form of linear second order ordinary differential equation of variable coefficient in
the form of Bessel’s kind. We convert the proposed Bessel’s differential equation into an
algebraic equation for transformed function by using Laplace transform. Solving this second
order ordinary differential equation of variable coefficient, using reduction of order and
power series method of solving differential equation and applying inverse Laplace transform
general solution of the problem is obtained. Graphical solution and numerical values are
presented to show the performance and accuracy of the proposed method. To obtain
numerical value and graphical solution we used some softwares like mathematica and
computer programming (c++).</dc:description>

<dc:description>Robit small-scale irrigation scheme is located in the Amhara National Regional State and
was constructed in 2012. However, the performance of the irrigation scheme has not been
evaluated yet. In the present study, the performance of the scheme was evaluated by
estimating water delivery performance indicators, water conveyance efficiency, water
conveyance losses, and satisfaction of irrigation users. The water delivery performance
adequacy, efficiency, equity and dependability were evaluated by monitoring discharge at
nine selected offtakes; three each at the head, middle and tail end of the scheme command
area during the crop season from April to June 2017. The water conveyance efficiency of
the main and secondary canals and thus the water losses in water conveyance were
estimated by measuring irrigation water flow at different locations along the canals. The
satisfaction of the irrigation water users from the irrigation service received was
evaluated using the binary Logit Model at the head, middle and tail end of the irrigation
scheme, and for the entire irrigation scheme. Irrigation water flow in the main and
secondary canals, as well as at nine tertiary offtakes was measured using Current meter
and 3-inch Parshall flume. The data were analyzed using STATA, CROPWAT, ARC GIS
software, and Microsoft Excel. The water delivery performance indicators adequacy,
efficiency, equity and dependability varied widely from head to tail reach and, during the
crop season from April to June with overall average value equal to 0.88, 0.92, 0.09 and
0.11 respectively. Thus, the irrigation scheme when compared with Molden and Gates
(1990) standards was found under fair condition in adequacy and dependability and
under good condition in efficiency and equity.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Climate change is a global challenge. It is known regional hydrology is influenced by global climate change, through changes in patterns of precipitation temperature, runoff and other hydrologic variables. This has serious consequences on societal development and the costs of achieving adequate levels of water security. In this study climate change impacts on runoff water potential at catchment scale for the two selected catchment in Upper Awash Basin have been assessed. The two catchments included in the study were Legedadi (205 Km2) and Dire (77.56 Km2) catchments. A 0.44° resolution data of Coupled Model Inter-comparison Phase5 (CMIP5) global climate models (GCMs) output of precipitation and temperature (max& min) for 2020’s (2016-2035), 2050’s (2046-2065) and 2080’s (2081-2100) under (RCP 4.5) were applied to assess the climate change scenarios. Bias correction was applied to these forcing variables. Moreover, a hydrological model, Arc-SWAT, was utilized to simulate runoff in the study area. Sensitivity analysis result shown that Curve Number (CN) factor are the most sensitive parameters affecting the hydrology of the catchments. The model was calibrated from 1988-1997 and validated from 1998-2003 at the estimated outlet of Legedadi and Dire catchment. In terms of hydrological modeling performance, at both catchments (NSE) indices are greater than 0.8 and 0.85 for calibration and validation period respectively.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Baro river basin located in southwest of Ethiopia is a largest sub basin of Baro-Acoobo basin. For the proper utilization and management of groundwater resource in the basin, it required to know its spatial distribution. Hence, geographic information system and remote sensing techniques were used to analyze the groundwater system based on seven selected groundwater influence factors thematic maps. The thematic maps we used were geology, soil, lineament density, drainage density, rainfall distribution, slope and land use maps. Lineament and land use maps were prepared through the process of remote sensing techniques from Landsat 4-5 imagery using ERDAS imagine and PCI Geomatica softwares. Other thematic maps were prepared using Arc GIS 9.3 from DEM and previous prepared soil and geology maps .for each maps weight value was estimated by using PriEst software after assigning weight value of domain effect by using pairwise comparison based on Saaty’s analytical hierarchy process. Finally thematic layers were integrated in Arc GIS 9.3 based on estimated weight values. In the basin, four groundwater potential zones were identified; namely: excellent, good, moderate and poor. Excellent groundwater potential zones are associated with areas of alluvial deposition, flat and sand dominant soil group of western part of the basin; north and eastern portion of basin have good and moderate potential zone. Poor potential zone are in areas of mountain areas which have steep slope and high drainage density in center of the basin.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Sugarcane is fully irrigated crop in Ethiopia. But, there is little information on the field water application performances of sugar estate farms. Open canals are the main systems for supplying irrigation water in these farms. However, most of these schemes are frequently criticized for their low conveyance and field water application efficiencies. Under the water scarce situation, improving the canals conveyance efficiency and field water application can offers an opportunity to realize field level water savings. This study was done a purpose of identifying and understanding the current level of field water application efficiencies of Tendaho sugarcane irrigation scheme using appropriate on-field irrigation performance indicators. Primary/direct field data collection and some secondary data were used to undertake planned objectives. Canal conveyance evaluation was done for tertiary canals based priority of dominant conveyance defects observed in the sugar estate. Field water application evaluations were done during the normal irrigation practice of the sugar estate considering: application efficiency, storage efficiency, and deep percolation losses. The relationships between coefficient of uniformity and distribution uniformity have also described based on opportunity time for each quarters using the linear equation. Tertiary conveyance was evaluated by using volume flow measuring method using Parshall flumes set at inlet and outlet of representative canals. From results, the mean conveyance efficiency of tertiary canal was 59.589% with high amount of water losses. From field evaluation, most of field irrigation activities were not carried out on timely schedules. These resulted in overall mean on-field water application efficiency of 56.57%, 70.30% storage efficiency and 91.93% distribution uniformity at target application depth with the overall system efficiency of to 30.81%. Other factors found to affect irrigation efficiency are cut-off time, inflow rates, soil type, and furrow shapes.</dc:description>

<dc:description>In Burundi, agriculture engages for approximatively 80% of the economically
active population and it remains a very important economic sector. In this part of
the world rainfed agriculture is largely dominant; food security and income of
rural populations are vulnerable to rainfall variability. Therefore, rainfall being an
important climatic factor in crop production, the main objective of this research
was to analyze the spatial and temporal variability of rainfall in Burundi.
For this purpose, 16 meteorological stations with 30 years of data record have
been used. Investigation of monthly, seasonal and annual rainfall variability using
different methods reveals that there is spatial variability of rainfall in Burundi.
Spatial analysis shows that the entire country can be classified into four
homogeneous zones depending upon their moisture availability index. The
results indicated that distribution of annual rainfall didn't show significant change
within the period considered</dc:description>

<dc:description>Nowadays the sign of climate change and its impact is revealing on different natural and man-made systems, in one or other ways. Accordingly, this impact is significant on the water resource system. This study mainly deals with evaluation of the climate change impact on the Kulfo catchmenet which is found in Rift valley. Statistical down Scaling Method (SDSM) was applied in order to downscale the climate variables at catchment level. SDSM was also used to downscale the present and future monthly precipitation and temperature from the UK Hadley center (HadCM3). Two future emission scenarios, A2 and B2 were considered for the three different periods (2030s, 2060s and 2080-2099). Downscaling was done to obtain finer resolution output from the GCM, so that it matches with the Kulfo catchment scale. The downscaled future climate showed that the mean daily minimum and maximum temperatures increase by up to 1.65/2.0 (2030s), 1.66/3.0 (2060s) and 1.66/3.6 (2080-2099) and annual precipitation also expected to increase up to 11% and 9% compared to base period for A2 and B2 scenarios. The output of downscaled data provided input rainfall and temperature data for the HEC-HMS model to estimate flow. A hydrological model, HEC-HMS was utilized to simulate the flow. The performance of the model was assessed through calibration and validation process and resulted R2 =0.88 and NSE=0.87 during calibration and R2=0.9, NSE =0.866 during validation.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Soil erosion is a complex process that involves the detachment, movement and deposition
of soil particles mainly by wind and water but the problem is not noticed and perceived
by all farmers at the same fashion and level. Thus, the study is aimed to assess the status
of farmers’ perception of soil erosion and management practices in Arbegona woreda
woina-dega agro-ecology zone. A two-stage systematic sampling procedure was
employed to select four sample kebeles and 175 sample household heads to collect
primary data. Interview and observation were also used to collect the relevant data.
Descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis and Likert scale were employed to show the
frequency and percentage distribution of respondents. As the study has been shown the
farmers perception of difficulty for farming, desertification, poverty and economic
backwardness and increase the requirement for fertilizer as the consequences of soil
erosion were found relatively less and not reported by majority of the respondents except
few educated farmers. Concerning the perception to soil erosion management practices,
closure of grazing land, windbreak, fallowing and mulching perhaps are said to have
been the least perceived as management practices used by farmers except those who
attended primary and secondary education.</dc:description>

<dc:description>This study was under taken to evaluate suitability of Dirma watershed for surface irrigation potential. The methodology included evaluation of slope, major soil physical properties and surface water resources availability of the watershed. Suitability of the area with respect to slope, soil and surface water resources availability were evaluated using Arc GIS 10.1. In the weighted overlay analysis, high weight was given to slope, since it is the determinant factor for surface irrigation development. Potentially suitable sites for surface irrigation development were evaluated for selected vegetable crops, Potato and Tomato. The reference evapotranspiration and net effective rainfall for each of the climatic station (Gorgora and Gonder) and net and gross irrigation requirement for each of the crop for each of the climatic station was estimated using CROPWAT software. The minimum water requirement of Tomato was found to be equal to 0.07 m3/s/ha in April during the development stage at Gonder meteorological station and 0.07 m3/s/ha in January at initial stage at Gorgora station. The maximum water equal to 0.15 m3/s/ha for tomato crop was required in March at Gonder and 0.15 m3/s/ha in May at Gorgora station. In case of Potato crop, minimum water equal to 0.19 m3/s/ha was required in January at Gorgora and 0.157 m3/s/ha at Gonder at initial stage.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Irrigation scheme performance assessment is vital to evaluate the impacts of irrigation
practices, to identify performance gaps and to improve system performances. However,
the performance of Jari and Aloma Small Scale Irrigation (SSI) schemes was not assessed
since its operation. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the water delivery,
on-farm water management and organizational performances of the two SSI schemes.
Secondary data from different reports and primary data through field measurements,
household surveys, key informant interviews and group discussions were collected.
CROPWAT 8.0 model, SPSS and GIS software were used to analyze the data. The result
of this study revealed that, the overall canal water delivery efficiencies of Jari and Aloma
SSI schemes were 66% and 59%, respectively. Majority of the respondents, 37% in Jari
and 61.9% in Alom, reflected that the maintenance condition of irrigation infrastructures
was bad. From the respondents 45.5% in Jari and 50% in Aloma described that illegal
water abstraction accounts the primary cause for unfair water distributions. The ratios of
relative water supply and the relative irrigation water supply were almost equal to 1 at
both SSI schemes.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Land use and land cover changes in Kulfo River watershed experiences a lot of human disturbances due to agricultural expansion, and increasing urban demand for charcoal, fuel wood and timber; resulting in forest and land degradation. This in turn altered the hydrologic responses of the catchment. This study was conducted to assess the hydrological response of land use/cover change on Kulfo River flows. In this study SWAT model was selected as it applies distributed hydrologic model where various spatial parameters could be used and runoff is simulated at required scale. Spatial data (land use, DEM and soil) and meteorological data were obtained from USGS Satellite image, Ministries of Water Resources, Irrigation and Energy, National Meteorology agency respectively. SWAT model was used to simulate stream-flow for land use/land cover for the year 1985, 1995 and 2005 to determine the impact of land use/cover change on Kulfo stream flow. Land use maps of 1985, 1995 and 2005 were derived from satellite images processed using ERDAS Imagine 9.1 software. The model is calibrated and validated using historical flow data. Land cover change analysis has shown an increment in the proportional of the Agricultural land from 11.9% to 14.39%, Bare land from 25.8% to 14.14%, Forest from 16% to 12.43%. Water body, remain stable, however, Shrub land increased from 29.28% to 36.82% in between 1985 to 2005.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Mobile Cloud computing is a rapidly emerging model, with new aspects and capabilities
being declared regularly. It is a technology where mobile computing and cloud computing
is merged for a better performance and capabilities. These technologies create great
opportunities for the banking sectors, particularly due to its better capabilities and
population coverage. Despite of its advantages, security risk haves got focused in mbanking
due to the nature of mobility and inherent weakness of wireless infrastructures;
that creates great opportunities for man-in-the-middle attack, sniffers, etc. Therefore, banks
should have to consider the issues of data confidentiality, integrity, and availability in short,
security of services before moving on to the cloud unless they might fail more than ever.
Ultimately, our objective is to design MobiCloud data security framework for the mbanking
system by providing data security solutions to the existing m-banking system. We
used the following approaches: literature review, design, implementation, simulation and
evaluation. CloudSim-3.0.3 and CloudSimDisk-3.0.0 simulation tools are used to design,
implement, and evaluate the proposed framework. Besides, JCrypTool is used to analyze
key and password strength for user authentication.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Performance evaluation of center pivot sprinkler irrigation system installed at Hiwot Agricultural Mechanization farm was conducted. The existing irrigation system and agricultural practices were studied and measurements of the water application uniformity indicators were made and performance gaps were identified. HAM farm has 32 center pivot machines, out of which only five center pivot machines were under operation at the time of the present study. Radial measurements of water application along the CP sprinkler irrigation system lateral line were made for the estimation of coefficient of uniformity, distribution uniformity, and potential application efficiency of low quarter. Catch cans were placed along the CP lateral at 3m spacing for collection of water application along the lateral of center pivot. The measurement were made at five location s identified by the number of CP irrigation machine, m4, m6, m7, m8, and m12. Three of the locations were at upstream (m8, m12, and m4) and two located in middle (m6 and m7) of HAM farm. The measurements at location m4 were made twice, day time (about 2 pm) and night time (about 9 p m), however, for the remaining locations measurements were made only during day time. The measured value of water application rate for different locations along center pivot lateral line varied widely, generally lower values at pivot and higher values at end of center pivot lateral line. The Distribution uniformity, coefficient of uniformity and potential application efficiency of low quarter were varied from 67% to 85%, 73% to 86%, and 66% to 80% respectively. The highest value of DU was at night time measurement for location m4 as compared with m4 at day time due to lower wind velocity during night time (1.5m/s) and lowest value was for location m7. The highest value of CU was at location m7 whereas the lowest value was for location m12. The application rate at all the location was higher as compared to basic infiltration.</dc:description>

transport a material from various sources to different destinations at a minimum total cost.
This research studies the basic solution of transportation problem using the concept of Best
Candidate Method and compares it with the initial solutions obtained by North-West Corner
Rule, Least Cost Method and Vogel’s Approximation Method. The purpose of this study is to
evaluate the initial basic feasible solution of transportation problem by existing (North-West
Corner, Least Cost, Vogel’s Approximation and Best Candidate) methods, modifying the Best
Candidate Method and comparing the modified Best Candidate Method with existing methods.
To compare the efficiency of the existing heuristic methods with that of modified Best Candidate
Method, computational experiments are performed by randomly selecting seven transportation
problems. The analysis is performed by comparing the average number of iterations required to
produce the optimal solution and percent difference between the initial and the optimal solutions
.The result of the this study shows that modified Best Candidate Method is better than existing
methods in providing the initial basic feasible solution and gives optimal solution in less number
of iterations when compared with the existing method. In some cases the Modified Best Candidate
Method gives a combination such that the initial basic feasible solution is itself the optimal
solution of the problem.</dc:description>

water supply enterprise is not in a position to cover the capital and operation and
maintenance costs.
